Into the Highlands: Leaving Loch Lomond Behind
As we set out, the trail gradually climbed, offering final, breathtaking views of Loch Lomond. The landscape transformed around us, the dense woodlands giving way to more open, rugged terrain.

About an hour into our hike from Beinglas Farm, we encountered one of the day’s highlights: the Falls of Falloch. This hidden gem, tucked away just off the West Highland Way, offered a perfect opportunity for a short detour and a moment of natural wonder.

For much of the morning, we followed the River Falloch, its rushing waters a soothing soundtrack to our hike. The path alternated between forest trails and open hillsides, each turn revealing new vistas of the emerging Highland landscape.
Approaching Crianlarich, we reached a literal crossroads. While the village itself lay off our path, the trail offered a choice – a high route or low route. We opted for the high route, rewarding us with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

The afternoon saw us traversing Strathfillan, a historic glen rich with tales of Robert the Bruce. The wide-open spaces and distant mountains created a sense of stepping back in time.

The last few miles treated us to a mix of coniferous forest and open moorland. The path, now a wide track, allowed for easier walking – a welcome relief after the morning’s climbs.

While our clothes tumbled in the dryer, we treated ourselves to dinner and drinks at the Tyndrum Inn. The hearty Highland fare and local ales were the perfect reward for the day’s efforts. The inn’s warm atmosphere and friendly locals made for a memorable evening.
